Vodcasting Overview

Vodcasts or Video podcasts augment audio podcasting with a visual element. Video producers including artists, students, educators, hobbyists and large corporations capitalize on new inexpensive digital video technology and create high-quality visual media with cameras, various editing software and an internet connection. From the user’s perspective, a vodcast works the same as a podcast but provides the video aspect.

Vodcasts in Education

Since inception, vodcasts have been embraced by higher education. From the teacher side, lectures can be easily recorded and loaded to the Web for reuse by students wishing to hear the lecture again or for use by students missing class. Tutorials and other material can be posted and assigned as homework rather than use classroom time for dissemination. Items like exam reviews, readings, and other uses are also common.
