CNET has a new and free application that notifies users any time a software program they have on their computers needs updating. TechTracker may be accessed at http://www.cnet.com/techtracker/app/?tag=contentMain;mainWrap.

CNET Account

Users must first create an account with C/NET with their name, an identity, an email, and a password. They will then be able to download the software and install it on their computers.

Once the software is downloaded, you will be asked if you want to run the file.

Click on “Run.” The application size is 3.08 MB.

You will then be asked if you want to run the software. Click on Run.

You will be sent to the CNET TechTracker 1.0 Setup Wizard for the rest of the installation.

Click Next. Review the License Agreement that follows.

Check the square box next to “I accept the terms of the License Agreement.” Then, click the Install button.

The software will begin installing.

Running the CNET TechTracker

Once the setup is completed, you will be asked to click Finish. This will automatically run the CNET TechTracker 1.0, which will scan your computer system for the software programs and suggest updates.

The Report

The report will offer a range of information. “My Software” will show the installed version of each software application and the latest version that is out. An “out of date” application may be updated with a “download now” click.

This tool is helpful also to give you an overview of the software programs you have. It is a good idea to review all updates and downloads. It is also important to read the fine print at the download pages…to make sure that the terms of service are ones that you would still agree with. This offers a one-stop-shop for tracking application updates.
