History

Stickam is a social networking site that is composed of live streaming video. It features embedding and social profile options for individual web pages, online auctions, company web sites and is used for personal blogs.

The beginning of Stickam came in 2004 with the introduction of AVC, or Advanced Video Communications, with the goal of integrating online meetings between customers, employees, and partners anytime, and anywhere, regardless of geographical constraint. The site Stickam, was then founded in February of 2006, by Hideki Kishioka and a board of directors, and is currently headed by CEO, Steven Fruchter, who is the CEO of the social networking site LinkedIn as well.

The company is currently located in Los Angeles, California, and is the employer of over 30 employees. According to Crunchbase.com the site recently recorded over 400 thousand unique visitors to the site, as of May 2009. Since its founding in 2006, the site has seen a steady increase in visitors beginning at around 300 thousand visitors at the end of year one to the present over 400 thousand users midway through year four.

The site gained notoriety among the public in late February, as a 20 year old man, sexually assaulted his girlfriend of two weeks while she was passed out from drinking alcohol, and recorded the session on a live stream for others to see on the website. Uses of Stickam

Once signed-up for Stickam, the user has access to all of the sites features. The user can stream his/her own live video feed and even chat with those that are watching them. There are several chat rooms that the user can enter to discuss topics from politics to favorite bands. In the chatrooms, other users can see your broadcast while you discuss your topics. Stickam allows users to post videos and messages about content. The social networking aspect of Stickam allows users to gain friends with the same interests or fans of their particular streams/videos.

Conclusion

The overall future of Stickam is weighing towards eventually being an effective way to stream live feeds for employees, partners, and customers in an informal type of setting. The goal of the website is to one day be a viable tool in conducting business between companies and relaying viable information for individuals all over the globe by allowing parties to meet without any geographical constraints. The website as of right now is used more as a social networking site for many teens to younger adults to communicate with one another, and in some cases, as relevant to recent news developments, in an inappropriate manner. This is an issue that the company hopes to clean up, and to make strides in the future by creating a more efficient site that could eventually serve the companies intended purpose.
