Field Trips

From ElateWiki

Field trips are used in e-learning to support hands-on learning. These may localize the learning and make it more real. These may also be used to help online learners interact and bond with each other.

Virtual Field Trips

A virtual field trip involves going into immersive spaces for shared group experiences. These may include treasure-hunting activities. These often involve experiences in simulated spaces.

Attending a virtual concert, convention, job fair, or speech may serve as a "field trip". Going into an immersive space as a team to achieve particular learning aims may be a kind of field trip. Experiencing a designed online space or simulation may be another type of field trip.

Real Field Trips

Real field trips offer live, real-space, and synchronous experiences for groups (or individuals) where the online learning may be visualized and experienced.

Real field trips tied to online learning have included trips through a physical town while using a foreign language (in a foreign language course). Others have involved trips to museums, theaters and restaurants. Some extended "field trips" have involved short jaunts abroad to enhance the learning.
