[edit] Overview of DeskTop Author

Desktop Author is a powerful digital publishing software system that allows eBook creation (along with other digital media). The software formats digital material including photos, text, video, and graphics into digital web books with the illusion of pages that turn. The software creates a smaller package that requires the DNL Reader for viewing (.dnl file) or a slightly larger file that displays without the reader (in .exe form). DNL files can also be viewed in a Web Browser. The DNL eBook technology was developed by an Australian company, DNAML Pty Limited, established in 1999. (Desktop Author, 2008)
